President Nathan O. Hatch, formerly provost and Andrew V. Tackes Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, became president of Wake Forest on July 1, 2005. As chief executive of the University, he has spearheaded comprehensive strategic planning efforts and strengthened Wake Forest's distinctive commitments to the teacher-scholar model and the education of the whole person.
Jill Tiefenthaler joined Wake Forest as its chief academic officer and professor of economics in 2007. Under her leadership, Wake Forest has established the Institute for Public Engagement and research centers for translational health and bioethics. She has presided over the integration of the University's two business schools, an enhancement of the undergraduate admissions process, and the capping of loans to Wake Forest's neediest undergraduates. Tiefenthaler's teaching and research interests include labor economics, economics of the family and the economics of higher education.
