David Faber says...
I had discovered back in graduate school that record albums were the
quintessential intaglio plate--being already grooved, similar in
thickness to printmaking plates, and they already had rounded/beveled
edges that embossed beautifully into paper!  I started printed from a
couple of my severely scratched albums--you all remember--the ones we
loaned out to friends--or left behind at parties, etc..

At the Chapel Hill Community Center on 120 South Estes Drive a wood retaining wall separating a hillside from a playground area needed replacement; this situation presented an opportunity for an area artist to imagine an artistic and creative solution for this utilitarian project.  North Carolina artist and former Chapel Hill resident David Finn was selected to design, fabricate and install a replacement wall at the site.

The weekend of the 10-30/31 (Halloween) is also "Parents Weekend." 
Hawthorne Gallery has extended an invitation to everyone in the art department, -- inviting our students to bring their parents and other visiting friends to see Alix and David's shows. 

The gallery address is:

Hawthorne Gallery, 1281 West Fourth Street, W-S.  Alix's and my shows will hang until November 14th.  The gallery phone number is 724-1022, and the gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10-5pm.

David Finn has one of his new mobiles in the exhibition Made in the USA.
It opens on Friday October 2 on Gallery Crawl Night, and runs through the 18th. The space is at 329 South Harrington Street in Raleigh. Some of our majors gave their time and talents to help make the work: Becky Bowers, Paris Furst, Vinnie Cimino and Cory Lons
